12) Reflections

Researching and writing for this blog has led me through a rollercoaster of emotions that I am incredibly grateful for. A breathtaking journey from climate change and coffee to multimedia and medicine. Rekindling the inner activist in me, to save what I love - life on earth.

The idea of 'nature' belonging in the wild and removed from our lives, the belief that we can selectively choose when and how to enjoy 'being with nature' because it will always be there, has to change.

Visions of the 'natural world' as infinitely resourceful have dominated history. The tides are now changing, species' extinction is threatening planetary health and our very existence.

We are the species Homo sapiens, and we evolved through a symbiotic relationship with other species.

Together, we have the power to restore the planetary boundaries. I believe in lifelong learning, it is never too late to act on the damage we have done. By recognising our dependence on nature, we can motivate individual actions and engage others towards a common cause; saving biodiversity and ourselves.

Nature has recovered mass extinctions in the past, we have not.
